We’ve just entered our second year in government. We’re making progress. And making a difference.
We are working to make housing more affordable. Last month, as part of our 30-point plan, we’ve gave stratas more power to rein in short-term rentals.
We’re investing in services for families. We’ve launched a childcare capital funding program that will see 22,000 new spaces open up around the province in the next three years.
We’re working to give today’s students better opportunities. Co-op placements for tech programs and increased apprenticeships are about delivering skills and opportunities that will build lives and our economy here In BC.
What is happening in BC’s tech sector is exciting. We’re a creative province with a lot of talent — in tech, in business, and in the arts. We have Canada’s fastest growing tech sector. New creative enterprises and opportunities are abundant in our province. Our government is investing to support this innovation.
We’re also reaching out to our partners. I met with tech sector creative talent, researchers, and entrepeneurs from around the globe at SIGGRAPH 2018 last week in Vancouver. And last month, I was in Spokane working with others from the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, including on a Vancouver-Seattle-Portland high-speed rail initiative to connect us more deeply as a westcoast tech hub.
And we’re listening here at home.
We know it’s important to keep in touch with who we’re working for – you. That’s why I recently met with seniors, holding a meet and greet with MLA Anne Kang, the Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors, in partnership with the Port Moody Seniors Friendship Society. And why I’m at community events like Car-Free Day in Port Moody.
I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me, to my office and come out to our events to provide their feedback and ideas over the last year. Hearing from you is important. You are helping us to make a better BC for all of us.
Thanks, Rick
