April was a busy month. We’re making steady progress. On housing. On jobs.
We’ve introduced legislation aimed at empowering BC’s local governments to zone specifically for rental housing. Government will also assist municipalities with funding for mandatory for local governments to conduct housing needs assessments every five years to assist with community planning.
Mayors have been asking for this. We’ve listened and delivered. It’s partnerships with municipalities, non-profits and co-ops across BC, that will help people afford to stay in the communities they love.
We’re supporting innovation and the new economy. And it is attracting investment.
On Monday, Amazon announced its expansion here in the Lower Mainland – adding 3,000 good new jobs. The ‘Nerd Bird’ Vancouver-Seattle seaplane service saw its first flight last week.
BC’s tech sector is a very important to our economy throughout the province. I’m proud that our government recognizes these opportunities.
This week I’m back from Victoria and it’s great to reconnect with our communities. As always, feel free to reach out with your ideas.
Thanks, Rick
