The tech sector is a very important part of our diverse economy. High-tech products and services that you could only dream of or read about in science fiction novels before are now becoming part of our daily lives.
This new economy exists throughout our province – on the Island, in the Interior, the North and the Lower Mainland. Alternative energy, digital media, virtual reality, biotechnology and wireless products are coming on the market and evolving at an accelerating pace, and this is what drives the new economy.
All this change represents economic opportunity. Here in BC, our tech sector contributes almost $14.6 billion to the province’s GDP and employs over 106,000 people.
The future is bright, and I’m proud to be part of a government that recognizes the opportunities we have and that is positioning BC to be a world leader in the new economy.
